This despite the fact that Gabo conceived his first one in 1933 –at least a year or so before the constructivist pieces. As Annely Juda’s other exhibition entitled ‘Gabo’s Stone’ makes clear, he was however “unexpectedly in his element” when carving in stone, inspired by abstract elements in nature such as the curve of waves.
