The sea is then, very much in her blood, and after an art school training at Portsmouth and Leeds, painting has become, almost inevitably, the central theme of her work. Since a first visit to St Ives in 2005 however, it has tended to focus on the more extreme aspects of the sea’s state and moods, her remarkable, almost hyper-realist technique allowing her to capture the rolling surges of Atlantic swells and breakers and their luminous light with powerful pictorial force. New work is on show at The Minster Gallery , Winchester, 6 May to 6 June. NU THUMB nail Jo Bemis ‘Wave In Sunlight’
