Now he has gone one better than that, finally achieving the ambition of being left to work on that most JohnDavies, Schley seems to be just the artist to convey something of these qualities. His astonishingly disciplined, cool approach certainly helps, avoid- ing all the pitfalls of expressionist drama or painterly, picturesque cliché. These are in no way just painted photographs but distilled transformation of the most intense visual experience. NU mysterious and inaccessible of all the Outer Hebridean isles, the now uninhabited St Kilda. A double Unesco World Heritage Site – geologically and culturally – it possesses a monolithic landscape, haunting and spectacular, quite unlike anywhere else in the world and, on the evidence of the work within his latest show at
