Galleries - August 2022

The Society of Women Artists is back at London’s Mall Galleries for their 161 st Annual Open Exhibition. This will be the SWA’s first physical exhibition since 2019 and they can’t wait to see you there. During the last couple of years, the members have been energetically making exciting new work and are eager to be finally exhibiting at the Mall Galleries again this year. The society is delighted that their loyal patron, HRH Princess Michael of Kent, will once again be formally opening this year’s exhibition and officiating at the prize -giving of over £4,000 worth of prizes donated by the SWA’s generous sponsors. Since their last show at the Mall Galleries, the society has elected several new members who will be exhibiting as members for the first time. In the words of Soraya French, one of the SWA’s Directors and a past president: “Our new members bring their own unique voices, enriching the already impressive catalogue of the individual styles amongst the existing SWA members hip”. And, as always, the SWA’s exhibition will be one of the most truly ‘open’ exhibitions in the country, with fifty percent of the work on show from non-members. This ensures a fabulously broad spectrum of diverse work from the artists including sculptors, painters, printers and pastelists. There will be approximately 400 works on show, carefully selected from a submission of thousands of pieces entered from all over the world. The Society of Women Artists is a charity, but they donate a percentage of sales made during the exhibition to a cause close to their hearts: Breast Cancer Now. Exhibition open from 6th – 11 th September (4pm until 6pm on the first day, then 10am to 5pm daily). https://www.society-women-artists.org.uk
