Award winning German born (1963) Bettina Seitz has
worked from her studio in Sligo, Eire for the last 21
years having studied sculpting in Germany and Italy.
She is known especially for her elongated figures
inspired by a Dermot Healy poem from 'The
Ballyconnell Colours', describing two walking and
talking people in conversation transcending their
surroundings. Hand built in layers, on stainless
armatures from bonded white sands, cement and
fibres the material's density is clearly contradicted by
the ethereal lightness that her figures project.
M
J
Forster ‘Behind the Dunes’
Here’s a pointer for future
aspiring artists who want to get a
record of their work into print as
well as onto a gallery’s walls – go
to Kickstarter, the crowd-funding
website. Self-taught,
Northumberland-based artist M J
Forster did just that (having
already set up his own gallery
space in Hexham some years
before) and was handsomely
rewarded for his initiative to the
tune of £15,000+ and has
now just published a smart
limited edition book as a
consequence. Now the book is
being launched and a selection
of the original watercolours from
it are going on show, and sale, in
London through the initiative of
the Town and Country Gallery at
the
Royal Opera Arcade
Gallery
, map 29 (7–11 October).
Enterprising!
