September 2007 – Press Release

Peter Tarrant, Norman Lamputt and Melanie Brown
Born in Shropshire, well known artists Peter Tarrant and Norman Lamputt met, age 11 at Wenlock Edge School.  Their common interests in art and rural life, and their dislike of school, formed the beginning of a lasting friendship.
Peter Tarrant (b.1943) was born on a 20 acre smallholding near the village of Morville, Shropshire, where he attended the local school.  He went on to Shrewsbury School of Art in the early 1960’s and over the years he has had one-man shows in Birmingham, London and throughout Shropshire as well as many group shows.  Public Collections include Birmingham City Art Gallery.

Norman Lamputt (b.1945.)  After studying painting
and lithography, Norman Lamputt left Shrewsbury School of Art in 1965 to became a full-time painter
and illustrator. His interpretation of the Shropshire landscape in which he grew up is in the spirit of the great visionary painters of the romantic movement.
Melanie Brown studied BA Hons. Ceramics at Bristol Polytechnic and completed a Masters Degree in Ceramics at Cardiff school of Art.  She has had her own studio since 1978 and has exhibited throughout the UK and in Japan, America and Europe In 2004 she received a Creative award from the Arts Council of Wales and was selected for the National Eisteddfodd in 2004 to much critical acclaim.  In 2005 she exhibited at SOFA in Chicago with The Gallery at Ruthin Craft Centre where she had a sell-out show.
