His major influence is the work of J M Turner and he draws on traditional watercolour methods to capture the grandeur of the African landscape, and the more intimate beauty of the British Isles. He makes particular reference to Kenya, where he has made regular painting trips over the last 25 years, and to his home area of West Dorset.
