This year Thackeray Gallery celebrates her 50th Birthday. To mark this milestone, the gallery is excited to present

over 60 works by 30 of the gallery’s artists, both emerging and established, in this one-off anniversary exhibition.

This fusion of media, styles and ages aims to represent the story of Thackeray Gallery and the identity it has had

for the past 50 years.

When Priscilla Anderson founded the gallery in 1968, there were only a handful of established commercial

London galleries. The Gallery began to firmly establish itself in the art world, developing a reputation for

representing living British artists, including Sir Kyffin Williams, whose centenary is celebrated this year. In 1993,

Anne Thomson took over the Gallery following Priscillas retirement, and under her guidance success continued

and the roster of artists developed further. Joanna Carrington, Michael Honnor & Carey Mortimer, to name but

a few, all flourished in this period.

The Gallery Assistant during Annes tenure was Sarah Macdonald-Brown. Following three years in the role, she

took over the gallery herself at the young age of 27. Sarah still runs the gallery today, and has been committed to

the Thackeray Gallery philosophy; wanting to build on history whilst understanding the need for modernisation.

Artists like Ethel Walker and Gordon Bryce continued to be represented, whilst a generation of new artists like,

Anthony Garratt, Matthew Snowden and Vanessa Gardiner were added to Thackeray’s pool of talent. All of

whom are involved in this show.

Thackeray Gallery is a special place. She thrives because of her extraordinary artists, quality monthly exhibitions,

loyal clients and friendly feel. It is a welcoming, comfortable gallery for all connected and this ethos has remained

unchanged since the 1960s, which this show reflects.

The price range for this exhibition is: £500 - £35,000.
