Margaret Lovell D.Litt(Hon), DipFA(Lond),FRBS,RWA

19th October to 10th November 2013

Margaret Lovell is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning

modernist sculptor.

Reminiscent of Brancusi, Moore and Hepworth, Lovell’s works are

distinguishable by their complex simplicity; the abstracted forms are

both powerful and graceful; visually arresting.

She has been valued by the serious collector since first showing with

Marjorie Parr in London in the sixties. This current exhibition at The Art

Room will focus on a unique collection of sculpture, drawings and prints

from 1956 to date, many of which have not been seen before.

Lovell studied at the West of England College of Art (1956-60) before

going to the Slade School of Fine Art in London and later the Academy

of Fine Art in Florence. Lovell recounts the rigours of the ‘Slade regime

in her book written by Peter Davies, she describes this time as ‘Pivotally

importantto her.

She is a Fellow of the Royal British Society of Sculptors and a Royal West

of England Academician. She has recently been awarded an honorary

Doctorate of Letters by the University of Leicester for her distinguished

contribution to sculpture.

Margaret has had many solo exhibitions in London and the provinces.

Both public and private commissions have been undertaken in the UK

and the USA. These include a 6m bronze Spinnaker for Grafham Water,

Cambridgeshire, a 2m bronze for Barclays Bank in Bristol and the World

Sailing Championship Trophies for John Player. More recently she has

been commissioned to make award sculptures for Unilever which have

been sent all over the world.

There will be sculptures available for sale from between £395 and £9,000

these will include a number of highly sought after older pieces such as

the iconic bronze Augustine Head’ cast in 1956, Zig Zag Wall cast in

1958 and Maze Tree from 1964. Alongside these will be many

exceptional drawings and prints.

Margaret will be giving a gallery talk on Sunday 3rd November at
