Brenda Hartill R E is a British painter, collage artist and printmaker. Her work

explores the texture, pattern and light of the landscape, and ranges from finely

drawn figurative early works to her recent bold, heavily embossed abstract

images. For the past 10 years she has been most interested in drawing

abstract imagery from the landscape, rugged mountain erosion, structure of

the land and the dynamics of plant growth. She loves the strong light and

shadow of Southern Europe, and remote New Zealand, as well as the gentler

greyness of London and Sussex. She exhibits worldwide and plans a solo

show at the Curwen Gallery, London in October.

As part of the South East Open Studios, spend a day in the depths of the

Sussex countryside, and visit Brenda and other artists on the Rye and

Northium art trail. Lunch in a local pub, or one of the many superb

restaurants in Rye, as well as the gardens of Great Dixter, or the beach at

Camber Sands.
