Neil Davies and Ben Catt are two of the finest atmospheric painters working in Cornwall today.

Despite very different approaches and painting styles, each artist, through their work, captures both

the rugged beauty and the often wild nature of the south-west peninsula. They follow in the best

traditions of the Newlyn and St Ives schools of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Neil Davies spent his early years in a small fishing village in Scotland before moving south and

studying at the Farnham School of Art in Surrey. Determined to pursue a career in painting Neil

spent a lengthy and formative period in Florence before returning to the south of England where

he taught painting and drawing at various higher education establishments. He moved to Cornwall

14 years ago and now paints full time from his studio on the north coast above St Ives. Neil has had

regular solo shows across the West Country and throughout the rest of the UK.

Ben Catt was born in London in 1970. He studied sculpture in Newcastle before beginning a career

working for a leading design company. Since moving to Cornwall several years ago Ben’s work has

been taken up by several local galleries and he has had a number of one-man shows in the region.

His uninhibited painting style has already won him many followers and the success of a recent one-

man show in St Ives points to a growing level of interest in his work.

This exhibition, the first joint show of their work, opens with a week at the A&D Gallery,

Marylebone and resumes for a second week in Trebehor, just a couple of miles from Land’s End.

There are Private Views on the 26th June (6pm-9pm) and 7th July (2pm-5pm).
