Original Artist Prints at affordable prices

www.greenwich-printmakers.org.uk

Greenwich Printmakers is a vibrant and diverse

group of artists who demonstrate the versatility

of contemporary printmaking. The techniques

available to modern artists in the field of print

are wider than they have ever been. The artist’s work in both traditional and cutting-edge

methods, from etching and engraving - methods that date back to the dawn of printmaking -

to screen-printing and lithography using digital photography as a source of imagery. They

constantly explore new and innovative themes and ideas as well as respecting what has gone

before. There is something about the scale and immediacy of the printed graphic image to

which people respond. Only printmaking offers this diversity in such a direct and compelling

way and at affordable prices.

Greenwich Printmakers Midsummer Exhibition is now open in the gallery at

1A Greenwich Market SE10 9HZ: a new show of framed pieces by our members, which

continues to celebrate London in this special summer, with many pieces having a London or

Olympic theme. There are original prints to suit all tastes with a variety of subjects included

in the display. Many framed pieces can be purchased unframed, and there is, as usual, a large

selection of works in the browsers, in all printmaking styles and sizes, with an affordable

price tag.

The ‘Featured Artist’ wall continues, and is dedicated to the work of one of our members in

turn, providing the chance to see a more substantial body of work. The show changes every

two weeks as follows:

Richard Roberts – until Sunday 15 July exhibits his evocative show. Richard’s photo-

etchings incorporating traditional printmaking techniques are inspired by the golden age of

cinema and pay homage to classical film and typography.

Stephen Robson - 17 to 29 July. His favourite subjects of the Thames estuary and the Norfolk

and Suffolk coasts feature in his lovely collection of etchings, drypoints and monoprints.

Sue Rowling - 31 July until 12 August. Sue’s love of colour and background in textiles is

amply demonstrated in her fabulous mono-prints. Her unique and personal technique allows

her to build up imagery by overprinting and drawing to develop both unique landscapes and

abstracts.

Anthony Salter - 14 to 26 August His delightful show of contemporary etchings and linocut

prints including figurative and semi-abstract landscapes.

Kristina Sandoe, 28 August to 9 September. Her artwork is informed by her experience in

archaeology and an interest in the development of land use. She explores landmarks, memory

and archaeology through an intriguing series of etchings.

Karen S. 11 September – 16 September Karen’s work reflects her response to the countryside

and to industrial and historic Greenwich. She gathers her imagery while out on walks and

these she works later into etching plates.

During the summer we are open every day, with normal opening times between 10.30 and

5.30. But please note, to reflect the busy Olympic period we have adjusted some of our

opening times as follows:

Sat 28 July to Thurs 9th August (except Weds 1 Aug) open from 12noon until 7.30pm.

Thurs 30 August until Tues 4 September open 12noon to 7.30pm.
