Where: Caol Ruadh, Colintraive, Argyll, PA22 3AR When: Thursday June 30 th – Monday August 29 th 2022 Kathy Bruce is an international environmental artist based in Scotland. Her sculptures at Caol Ruadh are inspired by the children’s book “Three Ladies Beside the Sea” by Rhoda Levine illustrated by Edward Gorey. They compellingly evoke the mythology of women in Nature in the dramatic setting of the gardens, and sea views at Caol Ruadh, by the burnt islands on the Kyles of Bute. The sculptures are bamboo and willow figures site specific to the features of the Caol Ruadh landscape. Her selection of natural organic materials is typical of her practice, with the willow and bamboo cut from the Caol Ruadh garden and the Walled Garden at Ardentinny. Nature’s Whimsical Women is Kathy Bruce’s first one person exhibition in Scotland. She is a member of Visual Arts Scotland with her work recently shown in the 2022 VAS “Reverb” Exhibition. She has created installations internationally in US, Canada, France, Denmark, Senegal, Peru, and Taiwan.
