The exhibition is a collection of the traces of a series of durational performance works, made in situ, including paintings, drawings and sculpture. Two streamed live performances, on site in the landscape, are central to the exhibition Emma Somerset Davis makes work through performance, exploring a material relationship to nature, rural landscape and built space. Her works are made in liminal spaces, exploring a considerable range of contents that include : desire, loss, conflict, sexuality, class, birth and mortality. She works encountering and between materials, in place, and with relationships to others. The live work engages in the moment of being and doing, through actions and labour, continuing to inhabit spaces beyond the performance, in the traces of drawing, painting, and sculpture. Her making negotiates an emotional politics through the body, with far reaching urgency. concerning issues of pluralism, feminism, anti-violence and the environment. Working in the UK and internationally, both in public space, festivals and major galleries and museums, including Manifesta, Venice Biennale, Tate Gallery, The V and A, Vienna Succession and PS1. Her performances are grounded in a substantial practice in painting, drawing, sculpture, sound and poetry.
