Inimitable collage artist MARK HEARLD plays a significant role in Yew Tree Gallery’s new exhibition. Animals and birds of land and shore are predominant subjects in his fluid collages and paintings on ceramic platters. Balancing these are carved seabirds and boxed tableaux constructions by ALEX MALCOLMSON, reflecting his Shetland upbringing and fascination with maritime life. The rapid decline in some animal species is brought home through ROBINA JACK’s choice of imagery in her ceramic dishes and wooden panels. Sea and earth colours in SUE MARSHALL’s hand-dyed woven rugs and cushions hark back to her Scandinavian childhood. Humour in delicately modelled creatures appear as flatbacks, echoing the old Staffordshire tradition, byTERRY SHONE. In contrast to a display of GUY ROYLE’s beautifully crafted silver & gold jewellery is a cabinet of contemporary sculptural jewels by BRONWEN GWILLIM, made from recycled industrial waste. Jugs with generous spouts, plates with wavy rims, bold brushwork decoration ~ these are elements of NIGEL LAMBERT’s wood-fired earthenware which bring pleasure to every meal. In the garden are slate and mixed media sculptures, tables and birdbaths by the ever-popular HELEN NOCK. Opening with a Private View on Sunday, 8th September, the exhibition continues until 26th October fromTuesdays to Saturdays 10.30 – 5pm. Through commission on sales and donations we hope to support a charity to combat climate change and clean up our oceans.
