This indirect approach to her eventual subject matter may well be at the heart of the very distinctive, almost slightly surrealist quality of her sea and shore- scapes – glassy surfaces, sometimes almost day-glo colours and dramatically receding perspectives – all of which make not only for a refreshing change from the often rather affected expressionist gloss of so much of this genre but finally conveying a much stronger and more intuitive sense of the restless movement of light and water over and around the elemental geological timelessness of this rugged, ferocious coastline.
