Galleries - July 2019

A r r a n O p e n S t u d i o s 2 0 1 9 August 2 - 5 Arran Open Studios builds up more head of steam than a Clyde Puffer as it ploughs into its eighth year. 2019 showcases 41 movers and makers working on this iconic isle in Scotland’s Firth of Clyde. This is a unique opportunity to visit their studios and workshops, and to engage, one on one, with contemporary artists and craftspeople working in a broad range of disciplines and materials - painting, sculpture, ceramics, fabrics and textiles, furniture, woodturning, printmaking, jewellery, illustration, assemblage, mixed media. It’s also an opportunity to acquire hand-made objects directly from their authors and without gallery commission, to get the back story about the work and how it has come about. But not only that. . . in between studios, absorb the famous scenery that rightly proves Arran to be not only Scotland in miniature, but also a place of stunning scenery and hospitality. And take part in this year’s Biscuit Tin Initiative. Materials provided. Draw, write, meditate and leave your contribution in one of the many Paterson of Arran biscuit tins dotted around the island. There’s a chance to win an AOS trip to Arran for the best biscuit tin. Get creative. www.arranopenstudios.com t: 01770 820373 facebook: ArranOpenStudios. artworks from top left: Lesley Lockhart, Ruth Mae, Tim Pomeroy, Ed O’Donnelly, Josephine Broekhuizen
