Graduating with a degree in ceramics in 1973 he taught in Brussels and then, after a brief sojourn back in the UK, returned for 20 years to Amsterdam as a successful abstract ceramicist while at the same time, beginning to paint. Tentative at first, he has now developed into a thoughtful abstract painter, since 2008 working in Oxfordshire. Landscape is hinted at in many of them but process is the fundamental element, the scraping, smearing, and removing of paint from the canvas “making the visible invisible” quoting Klee.
