Pigeon-holing herself as a painter and a printmaker on her website she explains that the paintings “are figurative but realism is not the aim. They owe much to the imagination, with a strong emphasis on pattern.” With her training as a painter, for the etchings she “more often uses coloured inks than traditional black for printing and achieves a painterly effect.” Shirley has had solo exhibitions in London, Berkshire and Cheshire and taken part in many group shows.
