Music which seeps in and transforms a space is now taken by Duncan Shanks, showing at R oger Billcliffe, as a thematic link with his own work as reflected in both his wandering and rendering of familiar landscape imagery which has surrounded him through his own journey of winter painting. Schubert’s work, tonally melancholic and haunting, is recognised by Shanks in his own canvases along with elements of Munch – anguish –also revealed in the etoliated winter sunlight which significantly pervades a number of them. Works which have to been seen in the scale and light which only a gallery setting can give. PH THUMB nail Duncan Shanks ‘The Fiery Mantled Sun’
