Mar 6–18. Members M–Z. Mar 20–Apr 1. This annual exhibition gives all our artist members the opportunity to exhibit their work. Our members range from renowned professionals to John Keane’s now substantial reputation was made as an artist of conflict; since Northern Ireland in the 1980s, there have been few military engagements of any substance where he has not been present, with his angry, powerful paintings made of the Gulf War in 1991 marking the beginning of his wider public recognition. In the old days he would have been called simply a ‘war artist’ but, with the coming of digital reporting, the role has become less focused on ‘events’ and more about the human impact. This new series, entitled ‘Twelve Selves’ at Flowers Gallery Cork Street, marks a different direction again, the inkjet transfers of an original imagined ‘mug shot’ of himself as an NKVD victim subjected to transformation by reactive metallic paints. The outcome is disturbing and edgy. NU THUMB nail John Keane ‘Selve Seven’ Richard Fowler ‘Portishead’ Guildford House Gallery (see listing on facing page)
