Saraff was a star pupil at the RA Schools in the mid 1990s however and, as his new work at The Art Shop & Chapel shows, his paintings have taken on contemporary elements also, with stronger, more expressive brush strokes and a bolder, less modulated colour range – a subtle and gorgeous re-working of a sometimes predictable tradition.
