The free flowing brush marks may look random but of course they are truly considered. As he puts it – he believes “in painting life as it unfolds and in painting realistically; giving 100 per cent to the work, being immersed in the subject, thereby producing paintings that are, by their very nature, both pure and thought provoking at one and the same time.” A Londoner by birth (1961) Anniss studied art at Exeter and Eastbourne. At that time he was impressed and thereby influenced by The Euston Road School of Painters, especially William Coldstream, along with Euan Uglow and David Hockney.
