Founded in 2010, its principle feature is a biennial open competition and exhibition for artists born, living or having studied in the Northern counties. The fourth and latest of these exhibitions is now on at The BowesMuseum at Barnard Castle and will subsequently tour to Huddersfield, London (Bankside) and Carlisle through 2018. With over 2200 entries, £10,000 main prize and guest appearances from such distinguished Northern-born artists as Anne Desmet, Norman Ackroyd and Tom Wood, the 72 artists (88 works) finally selected show Northern art currently to be in really pretty good shape.
