Steadman’s latest book, a collaboration with fellow ‘Gonzovationist’ Ceri Levy, ‘Critical Critters’ is also the subject of a new exhibition opening this month at Sylvester Fine Art comprising 24 signed prints in numbered editions of 50, taken from the originals for the book. Jam packed with nonsense beasts, irreverent jokes and a diary style record of the creative mayhem, it contains some 100 illustrations of critically endangered mammals, insects, fish, lizards and trees. Levy remarks “we have tried to make sense of the damage mankind has wreaked upon this planet and its co-habitants. Sense is almost impossible to find but Ralph’s art has come closer than most. We smile at the beasts he conjures up . . .
