In the height of summer they are a riot of colour and crazy directions. They jostle for light and space.” That's not a bad way of defining the exuberant character of the paintings she then makes from this subject matter, order always being subtly restored to the proceedings by her powerful sense of form and structure –rich and exotic but at the same time imbued with clarity and individuality. This, in turn, owes much to her exploration of the layering techniques involved in collage and silkscreen that form the other, exhilarating group of works in this auspicious debut exhibition showing at Compass Gallery in Glasgow.
