In short a pretty strong and determined artistic vision is essential in drawing out some of those things we really haven't seen or felt about it before; in this respect, the miraculous Dorset coastline has been lucky, first with David Inshaw's Hardy-esque evocations and more recently, Alex Lowery's apparently rather plainer but no less poetic 'takes' on the way the sea, the land and the human interact. Thus in his latest show over the summer months ofnew paintings at S laders Yard, entitled ‘Still Light’ (of West Bay, Chesil Beach and Portland), the sea, sometimes barely even visible, always takes on that sense of tangible yearning of that first glimpse of it, from a car or a train or the top of a hill.
