All the paintings in his current show at Brownsword Hepworth were painted there, on the spot – and for some years past too, Bishop has compared himself to an agricultural worker from the past, “woven into the fabric of the place.” Titled by the starting and finishing times of a particular painting, these are organic sculpture-paintings, richly coloured and with an intense sense of time and place.
