GALLERIES NOVEMBER 2016
MAP 26 LONDON
CORK STREET
2016 is proving to be something
of a landmark in the growing
appreciation of both the history
and current practice of
equestrian art with the new
National Horse Racing Museum
within the refurbished Palace
House building in Newmarket
(also the National Gallery of
Sporting Art). The opening show
is
The Society of Equestrian
Artists
annual exhibition; this
remaining portion of the old
Charles II Palace that the
eponymous king built to oversee
his racing enthusiasms in the
town, is an atmospheric, and
perfect space to observe the very
real renaissance of equestrian art
in this country, something which
the Society, now in its 37th year,
has done so much to support.
What a way to celebrate 350
years of horse racing in this
country, and Newmarket in
particular.
