BATH
Nicely timed to coincide withthe
Picasso show at the National
Portrait Gallery, this exhibition of
oils, pen and ink, watercolours
and ceramics by Lydia Corbett
(
David Simon Contemporary
)
aka Sylvette David, celebrates
the life and work of Picasso's last
living model – “the girl with the
ponytail” who appears in
important Picasso works c1954
(also in a sculpture in the NPG
show). Coming herself from a
distinctly Bohemian family – her
mother was a well known painter
and potter, living and working in
Vallauris at the time when Lydia
first met Picasso – she
established her own artistic
identity witha subsequent name
change and has gone on to
have a flourishing late career,
working in an exuberant style
that, while owing something to
Picasso inevitably, is still very
muchher own.
