Turner, Bonington and Russell Flint became Chen Lixun’s distant but inspiring tutors. His first London show, entitled ‘The Paradiseof Jiangnan Water’ at the Royal College of Art from 12 to 14 May, is a tributeboth to theBritish watercolour tradition and to art’s universal value in transcending national boundaries. Chen Lixun’s luminous paintings are inspired by the most beautiful lakein theSouth region of the Yangtzeriver, Xihu in Hangzhou. Hehas shown widely in China after spending many years evolving his own style, blending Chinese traditional philosophy with Western techniques. RC THUMB nail Chen Lixun ‘Lotus Series’ watercolour
