Mon–Fri 10–6, Sat 11–2 t 020 7399 9999 enquiries@panterandhall.com www.panterandhall.com Bill Henderson ‘Out on the Mountain’ 2015 It has always baffled me that a painter of Bill Henderson’s self evident ‘class’ as an abstract painter has never attracted far more critical and gallery attention – a long, busy career in teaching at the highest level has never stopped him producing a steady stream of work which, despite a number of quite distinct shifts in direction, has always remained immediately recognisable for its subtle densities of surface and colour, line and form. His work has clear roots in the automatism of Surrealism – Masson, Miro and Klee in particular, to which, at a later date one could add Agnes Martin and Cy Twombly – but always filtered through his own quite distinct and, to me at least, quietly poetic voice.
