Showing Claude Venard, Gustave Singier, Instead of paintings and drawing delighting the eye, the Compass Gallery is offering something different with ‘The Golden Age: 90 years of International Film Posters’. Film posters have become very desirable and expensive, with ‘The Mummy’ of 1932 recently selling for nearly half a million dollars. In the same way that the commercial art of Toulouse-Lautrec, Mucha and Bonnard is keenly sought, these once readily disposed of pieces of cinematic advertising have been transformed into a serious focus of cultural historical research with keen art market interest and many major institutions and national libraries all over the world forming collections. There is however, still plenty of entertainment to be had from these highly inventive pieces of graphic art, for both film and art lovers alike. Bill Hare THUMB nail Midnight Cowboy Polish1969
