The work he has produced since then, alongside his teaching career, has tended to reflect the painterly enthusiasms he gained on those trips –above all Braque, Morandi and Matisse – but added to this has been something more unexpected in a painter with such a strongly Scottish artistic background –a love of St Ives’ based art also and Alfred Wallis, William Scott and Ben Nicholson in particular. It makes for a very interesting mix, the Scottish harbour scenes and still lifes that predominate in his work combining rich but restrained colour, with powerful, simple compositional structures. Showing at Fidra Fine Art . NU THUMB nail Jock MacInnes ‘Sunset Over Arran’
