A major retrospective, organised by his long term (1970s) dealers Mayor Gallery, shows just why and how. The earlier work, from the 70s, is an ironic exploration of the urban dream, the witty and often complex painted, polychrome sculptures mocking the immaculate lawns and borders of English suburbia, having a vaguely Pop-ish character. By the ’80s though, he had begun to create the exuberant nude reliefs of his Ocean Gate series while more recently these morphed into his disturbing polychrome owls. They are all here, along with his exuberant prints. NU THUMB nail
