Insightful essays by Dervaux et al and 100 illustrations introduce us to Dubuffet's unorthodox, innovativemethods and radical vision. For him, continuity and resemblance take precedence over differences. Hence his BOOK review "disruptive patterns". Dubuffet's collection of art brut inspired him to harness the raw energy found in themargins of society in his own work. He experimented with techniques that stimulated the imagination (his assemblages of imprints for example). His collages of butterfly wings predate Hirst's by 50 years. With Picasso and Duchamps, Dubuffet was oneof themost influential artists of theera. Rosemary Clunie
