Mon–Sat 10–7, Sun 11–5 t 020 7352 3663 www.gagliardi.org Childhood can be a potent force in the shaping of an artistic imagination; in photographer Ellie Davies’ case it was spent growing up in the New Forest, and it was playing in the woods with her twin sister that has given the most lasting impulse to her extraordinarily original and often distinctly disturbing landscape photography. In the series of photographs she has produced over the last seven years the wood has become her studio, her subtle temporary interventions – creating pools of light on the forest floor, making and building structures, even introducing a golden tree in a thicket and, in her latest works – the ‘Half Light’ series – a new element, water – she sees herself as connecting with the wilder woods of her childhood – dark- ish fairytale stuff in truth (showing at Crane Kalman ).
