Galleries - September 2015

Now in its 28th year, the 20/21 British Art Fair is one of the great survivors of the London art scene, and surely must count among the longest running of such events in the country. Continuity is very much at the heart of its success. Apart froma brief spell at the Commonwealth Institute some years ago, it has always stayed at the same immensely attractive venue – the Royal College of Art in Kensington, opposite the park. Meanwhile the people who started it and run it, Gay Hutson and Angela Wynn, have never been tempted to tinker with the format of just 55 or so of the top galleries specialising in Modern and 20/21st Century British art. The fair has helped to change the game for that particular market, and continues to provide a powerful impetus towards its wider international reputation.
