Daily inc Sun 11–5 t 01481 265339 Alice Mumford ‘The Dark Red Rose in Portscatho Window’ One of the last graduates to emerge from that former powerhouse of painterly seriousness, the painting department at Camberwell School of Art, Alice Mumford has carved out a growing reputation for herself over the last two decades or so for her still lifes and interiors of quiet sensuousness and rich colouristic sense. Not surprising, perhaps, given that she had tutors there like Sargy Mann and Tony Eyton, but to this poetic heritage she has also added a very distinct intimacy that has much to do with the Cornish landscape which she knew well as a child, and to which she has now returned. It is a quietly substantial career, one which is now also being celebrated with a new monograph just published by Sansom with essays by Richard Demarco and Ian Massey. ( Belgrave St Ives ).
