Daily inc Sun 11–5 t 01481 265339 Ronald Ronaldson ‘Coastal Houses’ Ronald Ronaldson, who died earlier this year aged 95, was the classic instance of someone leading the artistic double life, earning his living for 34 years as medical technician at the West Suffolk Hospital and spending all the rest of his life, as self-taught artist, working out of his small neat painting room in Bury St Edmunds, producing a huge volume of beautifully painted landscapes – mostly of his adopted Suffolk (though born a Geordie) – and still-lifes. He built up a substantial and distinguished exhibition list too, over the years culminating in the inaugural show of the Edmund Gallery in Bury in 1991. A happy man and it shows in this delightful memorial show at the Chappel Galleries – tender, poetic and painterly. NU THUMB nails
