Under the influence of painter Mildred Bendall (who helped found ‘Artistes Indépendants Bordelais’ to which artists such as Matisse, Bonnard, Utrillo and Piccasso supplied work) Bernède began his artistic life in Paris but moved to Monségur, Bordeaux (part ofthe Zone Libre) during WW11 to continue painting. Showing his canvases regularly during the 40s and 50s he remained in France, turning to American influenced ‘Art Informal’ during the 60s. Bernède continues to paint from his home in Monségur.
