Born in Suffolk, Andrews (1898-1992), was fiercely independent, tenacious, hard working – as a student ofhers in her later Canadian years said, “a force to be reckoned with”. Taught the linocut medium (along with her partner Cyril Power) by Claude Flight at London‘s Grosvenor School ofArt in the 1920s, Andrews went on to produce dynamically pared down, muscularly wrought linocuts of Suffolk farming life, metropolitan cultural events, crucifixions, images ofCanadian rural life such as loggers in a ‘Coffee Bar’ BOOK reviews
