Back up theClydeto Glasgow itself, after the compulsory visit to the great Kelvingrove Art Gallery, head into the centre of town and visit two of thecity’s long- standing fixtures. First up Roger Billcliffe, whosefivefloors of showing spacemakeit the largest commercial gallery in Scotland. Current shows include oneof Scotland’s great figurative painters Duncan Shanks, along with their Summer Design Collection showing top emerging designers working in metal, glass and ceramics. Meanwhile, on West Regent Street, Cyril Gerber is mounting a Summer Exhibition full of gems, from 19th to 21st C. British painting. Theeyeis as sureas ever – an absolute delight. Finally to thepicturesque fishing village of Pittenweem on the East Neuk of Fife, with its thriving arts scene and its own Pittenweem Arts Festival (1 to 9 August) which began in 1982 and has now grown to encompass 100 or so artists from all over Britain.
