Artist Fair
With prices that range from £50
to just £1,000 the ‘New Artist Fair’
scheme, run from Candid Arts’
handsome warehouse premises
in Torrens Street, London EC1,
begins to make even the much
vaunted Affordable Art Fairs
suddenly look quite expensive!
That is in part, of course, due to
the fact that they are essentially
artist-run fairs so they can cut out
the middle man. There are other
attractive fringe benefits here too,
the most obvious of which is that
it gives the purchaser a chance
to meet the artist. Held twice a
year, usually March and
August/September (that one at
from the Truman Brewery in Brick
Lane), they include around 50-60
artists and 1000+ works across a
very wide range of styles and
techniques and have a constantly
changing roster of new, mostly
young, artists showing. Knowing
just how hard it is for most
aspiring artists to get themselves
established, that in itself is an
excellent policy. Some names to
