New Artist Fair With prices that range from £50 to just £1,000 the ‘New Artist Fair’ scheme, run from Candid Arts’ handsome warehouse premises in Torrens Street, London EC1, begins to make even the much vaunted Affordable Art Fairs suddenly look quite expensive! That is in part, of course, due to the fact that they are essentially artist-run fairs so they can cut out the middle man. There are other attractive fringe benefits here too, the most obvious of which is that it gives the purchaser a chance to meet the artist. Held twice a year, usually March and August/September (that one at from the Truman Brewery in Brick Lane), they include around 50-60 artists and 1000+ works across a very wide range of styles and techniques and have a constantly changing roster of new, mostly young, artists showing. Knowing just how hard it is for most aspiring artists to get themselves established, that in itself is an excellent policy.
