Oct 4–26. *pr *ad reuben@thesuttongallery.com www.thesuttongallery.com Tue–Sat 11–5 t 07854 972930 Helen Flockhart has established herself as one of our leading figurative painters. A graduate of Glasgow School of Art, she is having her first solo exhibition at the City’s Compass Gallery since 1999. Her paintings are more concerned with the psychological than the socio- biological side of human experience. Her uncanny pictorial narratives – where the mundane and the mythical make uneasy bedfellows – are wrought with such excessive detail that the viewer is simultaneously enthralled and mesmerised. These densely ornate paintings transport us to another level of psychic reality where every minute aspect of the scene appears to be redolent with symbolic significance and absorbing mystery, offering up a nether world of strange but compelling beauty.
