With his friends, Bacon, Auerbach and Freud, he pioneered new /gurative art, in the face of the trend towards abstraction and the conceptual. It is now nearly 20 years since the last major Kitaj exhibition at the Tate. His work is currently on show at Pallant House, the JewishMuseum and the British Museum; the latter with a substantial number of prints. Many of these are o.ered for sale in the current Goldmark exhibition. A new catalogue raisonné of Kitaj’s graphic work has just been published.
