Nov 26 until end of January. Includes Joan Eardley, JD Fergusson, GLASGOW Frances Macdonald ‘Sea Pinks & Sea Shells’ Ever since Peploe, Cadell and the Scottish Colourists first started painting it, the landscape of the Western Isles has offered a potent, painterly dream of white, deserted beaches, turquoise seas and limitless, wind-swept skies. Over the last 15-20 years Frances Macdonald, based at Crinan on the Argyll mainland, has taken up that baton, travelling assiduously around a landscape she has known for more than 40 years, often in her own boat, to bring back her powerfully sculpted, hugely evocative palette-knife paintings of that same dream- landscape for a modern generation. Scotland goes to London’s Portland Gallery in irresistibly tempting form. NU THUMB nails
