GALLERIES DECEMBER 10 GLOBE THEATRE BL A C K FR I A R S BR IDGE S U M N E R S T R E E T H O P T O N S T R E E T O UT HWA R K BR I D G E n o b a WALKB Trained at Chelsea in the 70s by Myles Murphy and then coming into contact with Euan Uglow and Patrick Symons, powerful influences all of them, Piers Ottey nonetheless has gone on, over the next 35years or so, to develop a highly idiosyncratic approach to the painting of the human figure, one which synthesises the more painterly concerns with surface of the former and the tough geometries of the latter, to intensely personal and highly rewarding effect. This impressive show, shared with later Chelsea student and friend, Richard Davidson, a record of their weekly session painting a life model, is a quiet hymn to the eternal subtleties & geometries of the painted surface.
